MALDIVES / A PHOTOGRAPHIC ESSAY

Nothing but horizon.

Maafushi & Hulhumalé · March 2025

Palm trees above a quiet beach and blue ocean at Hulhumale

Palm shade, bright sand and the line where the sea meets the sky. A pair of island photographs from March 2025.

At Hulhumalé, the palms give the view a foreground. Beyond them, the beach and the ocean form long, quiet bands of colour. The frame is simple, but the small differences between the blues do much of the work.

The Maafushi photograph follows the curve of the shoreline. Its white sand catches the light, drawing the eye toward the open water.

These images sit within a wider Maldives record that also includes Malé and Villingili. For this small selection, the thread is the shoreline: somewhere to stop, look out and let the horizon fill the frame.
